Meet the artists:

Liam McCarthy

Liam is a playwright, originally from Limerick, Ireland. His plays include He Dies in the End (Dublin Fringe 2025, First Fortnight Award Winner), Jilly Morgan’s Birthday Party (Belltable, Limerick and National Tour 2025), Anna’s Apartment and Monkeys in the Garden (upcoming). Liam co-created Boss Rob: A Masterclass for Aspiring Artists with Darren Yorke and Duffy Mooney Sheppard.


Liam has curated and produced the Bualadh Bos Children’s Festival in Limerick since 2022, and is also the facilitator of the Bualadh Bos Children’s Panel. He previously worked with The Ark (2016-2021) as Community Engagement and Child Participation Officer. 


Liam has participated in Druid Theatre’s Fuel programme, Corcadorca’s Show festival, Branar’s Meitheal, Axis Assemble, and Words Words Words at the Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh. He was a ‘6 in the Attic’ artist and also an Arts Council Next Generation Award recipient. He has been a writer in residence at Belltable, Mary Immaculate College and at the Centre Cultural Irlandais. Last year Liam was shortlisted for the Fishamble New Writing Award, the Phelim Donlon Bursary from the Irish Theatre Institute and the Prague Fringe Inspiration Award. 


Liam studied Drama and English at Trinity College, Dublin and at UC Berkeley. He holds an BA in Drama and Theatre Studies from the Samuel Beckett Centre and an MPhil in Irish literature from the Oscar Wilde Centre
